Transportation Institute was established in 1967 as a Washington-based, non-profit organization dedicated to maritime research, education and promotion. The Institute’s companies participate in all phases of the nation’s deep- sea, foreign and domestic shipping trades, and barge and tugboat operations on the Great Lakes and on the 25,000-mile network of America’s inland waterways. AMC was incorporated in 1977 as the Joint Maritime Congress to advocate for the U.S.-flag industry and our nation’s merchant mariners. In 1989, our organization’s name was changed to the American Maritime Congress. For over 40 years, AMC has functioned in an educational capacity for virtually every major piece of maritime-related legislation considered by the Federal Government.
